Specimen Radiography Device
The new TransSpec™ Specimen Radiography Device offers a safer, more sanitary method of transporting and compressing surgically-excised tissue than has been available before.
Housed in a water-proof container, the disposable specimen device virtually eliminates the possibility of worker or equipment contact with blood and human tissue when transporting surgical specimens from the OR to Radiology, then to Pathology. Its precision-molded parts allow the operator to apply even, controlled compression for artifact-free films.
Two models of the specimen device are available: one, with a solid plate for specimen compression; the other, with 180 holes perforated in the compression plate.
Both models of the specimen device permit accurate X-ray and identification of non-calcified lesions and microcalcifications, and include X-ray-visible number/letter axes on the compression plate that allows for exact location of the lesion in the gross surgical tissue. The holes in the perforated compression plate enable needles or other markers to be inserted into the tissue for extremely precise pinpointing of micro-calcifications.
Each TransSpec™ Specimen Radiography Device also provides:
- Ratcheted compression plates. The plates permit even, controlled compression for consistently high-quality specimen radiography. Tear-off ratchets allow the pathologist easy access to the specimen.
- Stabilization of the surgically removed tissue. The surgeon, radiologist and pathologist can quickly relate the original mammogram and specimen radiograph to the actual tissue sample for accurate, precise reference.
- A clean and sanitary method of handling blood and human tissue. The water-proof container with opaque lid permits discrete transport of specimens, and eliminates contact with clinical equipment and tissue handling by personnel. Label space is provided on the lid to allow for positive patient/physician identification.
- Single-use disposability. The device is used only once, then disposed of — an effective means of minimizing cross-contamination.
